Self Portrait Melted Quilt

I've been working on this quilt for a challenge at my Contemporary Quilt Group. There is not a single stitch or any glue in it! It's made with layered acrylic felt and organza which has been cut and fused with a soldering iron and distressed with a heat gun.

Although it doesn't look like me it does have very messy hair, just like me, and also many wheels turning and ideas exploding from the brain.

You'll be able to see it in person at next year's Craft and Quilt Fair in Perth.

Altered Book

Right now I'm working on an altered children's board book. I've used acrylics, collage and paint pens. You can download the girls face collage sheet and the circles collage sheets, to use in your own work, from my Etsy shop.

Mixed Media Textile Gifts

I've been working on some gifts for my art group's end of year celebration. These ATCs (above and below) are made from colourful fabric scraps, ribbons, yarn, paper flowers and free machine embroidery.

The ATCs below were made by cutting, fusing and burning felt and organza with a soldering iron and heat gun. The experimental piece with triangles was made the same way.

I have also been working on a book for the gift exchange. The covers are Gelli printed cotton with sequined net and free machine embroidery. Inside the pages are made from more Gelli prints.

Mixed Media Journals Galore

I've finally had a little time to do some art journalling. The pages above have photographs and background acrylic paint that have been scratched into.

The pages below use my favourite combinations of acrylics, collage, paint pens, watercolours, spray inks, stamps, and Gelli prints.

Here is my second painting from my online course Ever After. It's Beauty and the Beast. Mainly watercolours with collage, paint pen and graphite.

Here are a few journal pages.

This week I also went to a craft show here in Perth where I took a Powertex sculpture workshop. Here's my crazy birdie.

The Little Mermaid

I'm currently taking the online class Ever After which is all about making mixed media art inspired by fairy tales. This is the Little Mermaid. She's made with watercolours, acrylics, markers, graphite, Neocolours, collage and paint pens.

I made this smaller simplified version for a postcard.

Print n Pencil

I combined an acrylic painted background with a lino print and coloured pencils to make this simple postcard design.

Eco Dyeing

I've just returned from a retreat with my textile group. We had the fabulous Jane Flower in to tutor us in eco-dyeing. All the pieces were dyed with leaves and bark from native plants, mainly eucalyptus. We also threw in some onion skins, flower petals, and rose leaves. The colour was darkened by the addition of iron objects to wrap the fabrics around. All the pieces are made from silk.

We even made this bag decorated with dyes extracted from the leaves.
