The Little Mermaid
I'm currently taking the online class Ever After which is all about making mixed media art inspired by fairy tales. This is the Little Mermaid. She's made with watercolours, acrylics, markers, graphite, Neocolours, collage and paint pens.
I made this smaller simplified version for a postcard.
Print n Pencil
I combined an acrylic painted background with a lino print and coloured pencils to make this simple postcard design.

Eco Dyeing
I've just returned from a retreat with my textile group. We had the fabulous Jane Flower in to tutor us in eco-dyeing. All the pieces were dyed with leaves and bark from native plants, mainly eucalyptus. We also threw in some onion skins, flower petals, and rose leaves. The colour was darkened by the addition of iron objects to wrap the fabrics around. All the pieces are made from silk.
We even made this bag decorated with dyes extracted from the leaves.
Experiments with Melting and Burning
I've been using a soldering iron and heat gun to cut, fuse and distress synthetic fabrics in these experiments which mainly use acrylic felt and organza.
My textile art group has also been experimenting with glue guns, imprints and foils.
This experimental piece below was made on our art retreat. The ice breaker was to wear a crazy old piece of clothing. We had to cut bits of the clothing off whilst people were still wearing them and the challenge was to make a creative piece from the scraps.
