Needle-Felting Plus Melting Equals Art

In one of my art groups we have been discussing combining different techniques. I have recently bought a needle-felting machine and have just completed a workshop on how to use it (more on that if the piece ever gets finished!). I decided to try needle-felting acrylic felts and organza and then melting them, needle-felting more and cutting them up with a soldering iron. Here are some of my experiments which were then free machined with metallic threads.

Fed-Up With Finishings

I really hate finishing off textile art pieces. It takes so long to sew a binding and involves way too much accuracy and too little creativity for my liking. I've been working on some smaller pieces lately and have been using cheap ready-made frames to finish them off. You do have to plan ahead though and make work in standard frame size!

These 3 felt and organza pieces are all fused with the soldering iron and then hand stitched. I've added a few beads for a little extra bling.

Sketches and Journals

I've been on holiday a lot recently. Whilst I was away I only had access to a few basic supplies to work with in my sketchbooks and journals. Pencil, pen, a small tin of watercolours and an aqua brush are just about all you can take internationally. The camper-trailer is a little better stocked with acrylics and markers.
