Overlaying Photographs, Sketches and Tracings

I've overlaid my tracings (see previous post) to make this great crowd of partying glasses! As the sketchbook closes they raise up giving a 3D effect, it's difficult to photograph but you may get the idea in the picture below.

I also overlaid the utensil holder sketches. I like the sort of misty look you get with the layers of tracing paper.

More Overprinted, Deconstructed, Screen Prints

Today I printed the 2nd batch of prepared screens. Taking photos was a bit tricky as it was so windy. The colours are more vibrant in real life. They are mostly printed over previous less successful deconstructed screen prints. I love how some of the original colour shows through in areas of the new print.

Charcoal Drawing

In Creative Sketchbooks I've been doing some charcoal still life drawing. First a mid-tone was rubbed over the whole page. All the highlights were put in with an eraser and then more charcoal for the darks.

Sneak Peek - Mixed Media Relief Painting

Not quite finished yet, but here's a sneak peak of how my mixed media relief painting is progressing.

Overprinted Deconstructed Screen Prints

I've printed some of the screens I prepared in the previous post. I decide to overprint them on some previously decorated fabrics that weren't successful. I mixed the dye stronger this time and I like how bright they came out.

These ones below were printing directly onto some cotton wadding giving a softer look.

These faces were printed onto dotty fabric, it makes them look a bit like pop art I think.

Repeats

I took some of my drawings and repeated them in different ways using PhotoShop. So nice to do this quickly on a computer unlike the old days of photocopy, (which involved going to the copy shop!) cutting out with scissors and gluing down.

And just for fun I made this little composition of several drawings.

Abstraction by Isolating Details

I've taken some of my drawings (see previous post) and isolated small sections to give more abstract shapes. The fork above is starting to look like a stylised reindeer to me!

Needle-Felted Desert

A few weeks ago I went to a workshop on machine needle felting, also known as needle-punching or embellishing. I have the Janome needle felting machine. Unlike a sewing machine there is no thread but several barbed needles which mesh the fabric together to create a felt. You can see it demonstrated in this video.

I've finally finished the piece by adding free motion stitching using rayon threads. Here are some close ups.
