100 Days Project - 6/100

Today I did a reduction print with lino cut. I haven't done a reduction print for ages; it always seems quite an extravagant use of materials as the print block gets destroyed in the process. Below you can see the colour layers as I took more and more of the print block surface away.

Today's sketch was of a small statue I have on my shelf.

100 Days Project 5/100

Today I have been experimenting with magazine transfer on the Gelli® plate. All good things must come to an end though as I have used up all the magazines I had left. Even the junk mail catalogues are in short supply in lock-down.

This one was a transfer print from an old book page.

Today's sketch was of one of my favourite vases. I've drawn this vase before but not like this. I covered the page with water-soluble graphite and then rubbed out the light areas and added water to make the darkest areas.

100 Days Project 4/100

Today's print was made on the Gelli® plate by building up layers on the plate's surface before pulling them all off at the end.

I was feeling pretty tired today so I completed this sketch of a palm in my garden in less than 5 minutes. I used oil pastels and then flooded some watercolours over the top.

100 Days Project - 3/100

Today's sketch was a quick one done with charcoal pencil. I don't use charcoal very often so it was a nice change.

Here is today's print. It's a multilayered Gelli mono-print in acrylics and pastels.

100 Days Project 2/100

Here is today's print. This time it is a block print using a craft-foam block. If you cut carefully you can get 2 blocks from one piece of foam, one negative the other positive.

Today's sketch is some vertebrae I had hanging around, probably from a kangaroo.

100 Days Project 1/100

Well it looks like I won't be going out much for a while so I have decided to try the 100 Days Project. Maybe after 100 days some of the current social distancing measures will be lifted.

I have decided to make 1 print and 1 sketch each day. 

The print above is a Gelli® mono-print using the magazine transfer technique. I don't usually have much success with these but this one I added some PanPastel before pulling the print. I left the paper on until the paint was totally dry before pulling it off.

My sketch today is of a wire manikin I picked up in a charity shop. I like to do a blind contour drawing first to really get to know my subject. 

Indigo Dye

A while back I purchased an indigo dye kit from KraftKolour. I've finally had time to do some dyeing.

I tried lots of different tie-dye patterns on both plain and commercially printed fabrics. I had some hideous screen printed fabrics too which went into the dye pot for a new lease of life.
