Soda - Art Quilt

This year the WAQA challenge is "Water". I decide to make this piece called "Soda" based on a glass of soda water. I have recently got to grips with curved piecing so I wanted to practise that for the background. The yellow pieces were cut with the help of my new Classic Curves Ruler ruler.

The bubbles are attached with raw edge applique and free motion stitch.

You should be able to see this quilt next year at Quiltwest 2021.

Quilt As You Go

Today I went to a "quilt-as-you-go" workshop with WAQA.

I was NOT a good student! Hand stitching was mentioned and my blood ran cold so I decided to make my quilt based on a You-Tube I saw last night!

All the pieces are pieced and quilted at the same time which makes it a very fast technique. I finished this in a single day!

Here are the You-Tube tutorials from Not Your Mama's Quilt Store.

Improv Quilt Cushions

Lately I have been reading several books on improvisational quilting.  As I don't like planning or measuring I seems an idea method. The centres of these cushions are fused raw edge applique, the surrounds are pieced. I used hand dyed fabrics for the centre pieces and commercial fabrics for the surrounding.

Cracked Earth Felt

This month at TAAMMI Bev showed us how to make cracked earth felt using masking tape resists. Of course I couldn't stick to earth colours!

A finished Quilt!

I have finally finished a quilt and it has a practical use too! This one can go in the machine and actually be used as a cover and not just hung on the wall! Looks like someone claimed it already. I just have to keep the cats off it until I have shown my quilting group.

Improv Quit Top

Last weekend I attended a quilt workshop "No Maths Sampler" with Phil Thomas from WAQA, The idea was to make many different quilt blocks and put them together in a random way; no planning. I still didn't manage to cut or sew straight!

This is a big quilt top, the biggest I have made at about 90cm by 130cm. Now all I have to do is put the wadding and backing on, quilt it and finish the edges....I might be some time!
