Enhancing Gelli® Prints in PhotoShop

Today I have scanned my landscape prints into PhotoShop and enhanced them. I don't have an A3 scanner so I just took my prints to my local library where you can scan and save to USB for free. I've used various filters to make them brighter, more abstract and to change the colours.

You can see how one of the prints was changed below.

Original print

Duplicated with overlay layer blending

Posterized

Hue filter

Cutout filter
Here are some other enhanced prints. I'm going to send them to Spoonflower to be printed onto fabric.

Gelli ® Landscapes

I'm still experimenting with making landscapes with multi-layered monoprints. I'm using a square format this time. Later I will scan them to my computer and manipulate the colours before printing onto fabric and mounting on frames. Some stylised cairns are starting to appear in the images.

Art Room Reorganisation

The Hoarder's Art Room has been very quiet for a few weeks as I have been doing a once in a lifetime declutter of the whole house. The art room has moved into a larger space. I now have an awesome huge table in the centre, big enough for 3 people (or one messy artist!). Tons of storage and dedicated spaces for the sewing and felting machines.

See the before and after photos below.

Using Your Art Again and Again

I love reusing my own artwork in different ways. Here I have taken a Gelli® print and a gouache resist painting and scanned them into PhotoShop. Once uploaded to the Spoonflower website they were printed on cotton fat quarters. The vase design uses the built in "Half Brick" repeat feature on the Spoonflower site.

If you don't have a scanner, or you need an A3 size, you can scan your images to USB key for free at your local library using their photocopier.

You can buy both these designs in my Spoonflower shop.

Photos to Fabric

Here are another 2 great cotton fat quarters I've just received from Spoonflower. This time I combined multiple images and filters in PhotoShop to produce the patterned flower image. First I used a botanical photograph (I have no memory of which one) and a kaleidoscope filter to make the pattern in the leaves.

Then I combined the plant picture with a picture of some bamboo. Coloured filters were added on top.

The fat quarter on the right is a mirror image repeat of a photograph of some columns in a wall in Perth. You can see from the original photograph that I've changed up the colours a lot in PhotoShop. The Spoonflower website can take any image and make it into a mirror image repeat for you.

You can buy any of these designs (and others) in my Spoonflower shop.

Gelli® Print to Fabric Design

I just got these fabulous cotton fat quarters through the post from fabric printing company Spoonflower. It's a great service where you can upload your own designs to be printed onto a range of fabrics. These designs started life as a Gelli® print on paper.

Now of course you can mono-print directly onto fabric but paper often gives a more crisp print and what about that amazing print you did on paper and then wished you'd done on fabric? How about the one where the colours were not quite right? Perhaps you want it bigger or smaller? Maybe you want several pieces?

To get around these problems scan your print on paper; use the highest resolution your scanner can do and then it's easier to change the size and scale. You can see I also changed up the colours in PhotoShop. Upload it to the Spoonflower website and order as much fabric as you like!

If you would like to buy these fabric fat quarters you can order at my Spoonflower shop.
