Things I like - Symmetry and Reflection

Whilst in the art galleries and museums in Melbourne I took lots of photographs featuring reflections and symmetry. Many of these objects were in the glass section at the National Gallery of Victoria. The gallery has some amazing examples of Venetian glass displayed against contrasting black backgrounds with mirrors and bright lighting giving some great reflections. Taking photographs however is really tricky. The light is low meaning they can be blurred and it's difficult to avoid reflections of people in the gallery.

I think I will use many of the vase and jug shapes with printing. I've used symmetrical vases and pots and tea pots before in my prints. This is one of my most recent.

Here are some of my favourite vases, jugs, lamps and other reflective or symmetrical objects from the galleries - out of focus and all!

I love the patterns in this one too.

Another interesting reflective exhibit was this huge smashed wall sculpture.

Also in the glass section were these organic shaped bowls. I liked them for their form, a real contrast to the more regular and symmetrical functional glass items.

This window instillation in the NGV Australia appealed to me because the viewers reflection becomes part of the artwork. I also loved the bright colours.

This photograph on display at the NGV International shows some great reflections combined with architecture and forest.
